Gus Ulrich, PGA Professional
It amazes me to this day that I still love to play and compete as much as I do. If it weren't for that you probably wouldn't be reading this right now. I found the game of golf at a little 9-hole country club in my hometown of Garner, North Carolina. The GCC was my home every day of the summer in my youth, where me and my buddies would go around and around and around all day long carrying our junior clubs on our back. As I grew, I got accepted to attend NC State University where I walked onto the golf team and thought I was on top of the world! Thanks to Coach Richard Sykes for giving me that opportunity! Upon graduation I decided to give professional golf a try and entered the mini tour arena with moments of success and many failures. But the passion continued to grow and I kept moving forward making it to the finals of PGA Tour Qualifying School 4 times, but never getting my tour card. I then decided to get married and start a family, but continued to have the urge to remain competitive, so I worked towards becoming a PGA Professional. That has opened many doors for me as I have worked at several clubs (Pinewild CC of Pinehurst, Forest Creek GC, and Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club) where I have met many amazing and supportive people. Chris Little (the GM at Pinewild) has been the single most influential individual in my PGA professional career. Thanks to him and the members at Pinewild I have been able to continue to do what I love to do......Teach, Coach, and Play this amazing game of golf!
